Smooth, clean, geometric shapes are essential for contemporary style furniture pieces with upholstered furniture usually in black, white, or another neutral tone. These pieces should be simple and uncluttered, without curves or decoration. Sofas, chairs, and Ottomans usually have exposed legs with Beds and chairs usually having no trims or tassels. In conclusion, with contemporary interiors, less is more. Go basic, bare, bold, and structural with bespoke, unique and individual furniture.
Similarly, an all-white space doesn’t necessarily have to live up to that name. Complement whites with other subtle off-white or grey finishes or go dramatic and high contrast with black or mirrored highlights.
The sweeping strokes of an interior design concept are nothing without the supporting details. Whether that’s the scale of a lampshade or the stile width on a cabinet door, a good designer must be detail-oriented and will specify all of the particulars in order to best support the overall vision.
With the ability to brighten and visually open up any space, it’s no wonder why an all-white space might appeal to most homeowners (and their space-starved homes). True, white hues make the perfect canvas, but going head-to-toe white isn’t as simple as it looks. We’ll say it again – these ivory shades aren’t the most easygoing; and if not done right, your whitewashed space can end up feeling like an unfinished project instead.
