Traditionally, choosing furniture for a modern space meant staying within the Art Deco, Shaker or Mission styles. More recently, Scandinavian-inspired products have also been included in this category. Whichever design your bathroom furnishings are, try to ensure that they are as simplistic as possible and have a clearly defined shape.
Since bathrooms are spaces that we use everyday, their importance is far greater than we give it credit for. From bright and cheery to sophisticated and imposing, modern bathrooms have long gone beyond the limit of space. These modern details transform dull bathrooms into fantastic relaxation and refreshing spaces.
In terms of colour, on the one hand we’re keeping it natural with pale tones drawn from neutral elements found in nature, and on the other hand mirrored metallics are all the rage.
Your local building code will dictate certain minimum clearances. For instance, it may call for 21 inches of clear space in front of the toilet or 4 inches between a sink basin and the wall. Local codes may differ from national codes, so be sure you or your designer is aware of your municipality’s requirements at the start of the design process.
